We Made It!!

We spent the day in Philadelphia. We began our day worshipping at Christ Church which was established in 1695. It was very beautiful on the inside and worship was an experience. It turned out to be an Episcopal chruch...enough said...anyway...all the kids will remember is that it had NO AIR CONDITIONING and it was very very hot!!

After lunch our next stop was the liberty bell. It was hard to keep the kid's attention, however there were storytellers spread throughout the historic district that were very entertaining and informative. They were very dramatic and we all learned a lot. One story was about the pastor at Christ Church back when it was still the church of England. One Sunday in 1776 he got up to the podium like any other Sunday, but when he got to the prayer for King George and his family, he paused, and instead of praying for them he marked their names out of the book of prayer, declaring religious freedom from England.


This is a picture of a woman playing the glass harmonica. Turns out Benjamin Franklin loved the sound that you can make rubbing your wet finger on the top of a glass, so he invented an instrument that is made of all different sized glasses. As it spins the woman pressed her fingers lightly on the different glasses to produce music. It was very beautiful, although not something I would listen to for hours...You will never guess the price on such an instrument. This is her practice instrument, and it cost her $14,000!!! She didn't tell us how much her recital instrument cost (it is two times as big!)

Jim really wanted to find the stairs that Rocky ran to the top of and strike a Rocky pose for Dusty...but we all ran out of steam..did I mention it was HOT! So we got in the car and finally made it to Grampa's pool!! Yeah!!!!
